The domain is currently up for sale, and a quick WHOIS search showed it's managed by eName Technology Co. Ltd, a Chinese registrar with no known ties to Microsoft. The domain has been active since 2005, according to the listing, long before Microsoft 365 branding was even a thing.
However, Microsoft confirmed plans to transition its functionality into the open Copilot Chat extension over the coming months, consolidating all major AI features into a single open-source module.
However, Microsoft has extended the development cycle for the May 2025 release by one week, while working to integrate AI functionality more deeply into the open source Code - OSS core. The delay and AI integration efforts were disclosed in GitHub project planning documents and a recent company blog post.
Microsoft is also open-sourcing GitHub Copilot Chat in VS Code. The AI-powered capabilities from GitHub Copilot extensions will now be part of the same open-source repository that drives the world’s most popular development tool.
